Limitations and security

What Phase 1 does not do, how browser and PowerPoint rendering differ, and the trust model for export.

Phase 1 boundaries

Keep these limits in mind when you plan a deck:

  • Six fixed 16:9 layouts; no slide editor or arbitrary styling
  • Charts are HTML/CSS bars, not native Office charts
  • No automatic raster fallback for unsupported content
  • Built HTML uses a local file base and is not portable

Fonts and text fitting

PowerPoint measures text slightly differently from Chromium. Export widens invisible text boxes by 6% of their width, between 0.1 and 0.5 inches, so short labels do not wrap. Multi-line paragraphs may wrap a little later than in HTML.

Trust model

Export launches Chromium, runs page scripts, loads subresources, and allows network access. SlideForge is a developer CLI, not a multi-tenant export service for untrusted documents. Preview binds to 127.0.0.1 but serves every file in the JSON directory.
